A 20-year-old woman was shot in the head by a man who appeared to have been walking with her, police reported Sunday.
Neighbors found Catalina Contreras lying on the sidewalk in the 1500 block of Puls Street with a gunshot wound in the head and called police at 8:36 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Witnesses told Oceanside police that Contreras and a man were walking together when the man shot her and then fled.
A Life Flight helicopter was called and took Contreras to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla where she was in critical condition, hospital officials said.
