A 16-year-old boy was wounded in a drive-by shooting in Oxnard, police said Wednesday.
The boy was treated at St. John’s Regional Medical Center and released following the Tuesday night shooting, a hospital spokesman said.
The teen-ager told police he was at the corner of Channel Islands Boulevard and El Dorado Avenue, returning home from the store, when he saw two vehicles stopped nearby at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oxnard Police Sgt. Frank Devorick said.
The youth became scared and started to run, Devorick said. A person in one of the vehicles fired several shots at the teen-ager, striking him in the left shoulder. The teen-ager ran to a friend’s house nearby and an ambulance was called, Devorick said.
It is unknown whether the shooting was gang-related, Detective Dan Christian said. No arrests have been made and the investigation is continuing.
