Campaign Leadership

Shame on Ron Ottinger of the Sierra Club for his gratuitous attack on fellow environmentalist (“Campaign Mailings,” Letters to The Times, Nov. 11).
Ottinger should have praised Peter Navarro and Prevent Los Angelization Now (PLAN!) for running a highly successful and energetic campaign against the builders’ initiatives, Propositions D and M.
The same cannot be said for the anemic campaign leadership of Ottinger as chairman of the Sierra Club Political Committee. Clearly, Big Green was doomed.
But, had Mr. Ottinger run the same kind of aggressive, grass-roots campaign that PLAN! did, it is highly likely that the local chapter of the Sierra Club could have delivered the margin of victory for the narrowly defeated local open space measure, Proposition E.
