Purple People Play in 2-A Playoffs

SAN DIEGO — s attending the Carlsbad-St. Augustine San Diego Section 2-A football playoff game at 7:30 tonight in Balboa Stadium are hereby warned: Pay attention or you may end up cheering for the wrong team.
Both schools’ primary color is purple; and both have ground-oriented offenses; both rely on strong defenses.
“It’s the battle of the purples,” St. Augustine Coach Marty Martin said. “They’re a very good defensive team, and we finished fourth in the county.”
Said Carlsbad Coach Rick Brown, “There are many similarities. We both have the same kind of offense and defense. It should be a good matchup.”
St. Augustine (6-3-1) is making its second playoff appearance since 1970, Last year, the Saints upset No. 3-seeded Kearny, 18-16, in the first round. Carlsbad, 3-7 a year ago, finished 7-2-1.
