Cost Cutting at TWA: Trans World Airlines said it gave 393 ramp workers layoff notices as part of a Dec. 1 cut in its flight schedule. A spokesman said TWA plans to reduce capacity by 4% to 5% but won’t drop destinations. TWA, based in Mt. Kisco, N.Y., employs 32,500; it is reducing payroll to cut costs.
