EL RIO : Woman Dies as Car Hits Truck Broadside

A 72-year-old Santa Paula woman on her way to pick up her husband at a hospital Tuesday was killed in a car crash in El Rio, authorities said.

Margaret Brown was pronounced dead at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard at 1:09 p.m., about 50 minutes after her 1983 Pontiac collided with a one-ton pickup truck at Vineyard and Montgomery avenues, Deputy Ventura County Coroner Mitch Breese said.

Brown, who was driving alone, was headed to Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura to bring her husband home to recuperate from surgery, Breese said.

Eugene Kudlinski, 65, of Camarillo drove his pickup into the path of Brown’s car when he turned left from northbound Vineyard onto Montgomery, California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Utter said.
