Compromise

The approaching elections and President Bush’s flip-flops on the budget crisis emphasize that there are only two sides to every issue in politics--the one that gets you the most votes being the correct side.
Today’s politicians have forgotten that this country was formed by compromise. The only way to settle the issues is to find common ground. If the Constitutional Convention took place today, the document would never be written. But even if it were, it would never be ratified because people would write it off as the work of a bunch of fence-sitters.
