COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West Sweeps Orange Coast in Volleyball
- Share via
Any remaining questions about the Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball race were answered Wednesday when Golden West swept Orange Coast, 15-3, 15-4, 15-3, at Golden West.
The victory give Golden West (13-1, 8-0 in conference) a two-match lead over second-place OCC with four left.
It was also the 50th consecutive conference victory for Golden West, which is coached by Al Gasparian, who has a record of 140-28 in his eighth year.
The chances of Golden West losing to any of its last four opponents is remote. Golden West has yet to lose even a game in conference and only OCC has scored in double figures in one.
OCC was swept as well in the first meeting of the teams on Oct. 5, but extended Golden West before losing, 17-15, in the first game. Golden West won the final two games, 15-6, and 15-3, in that match.
The Rustlers held a 4-3 lead in the first game Wednesday, then turned the ball over Heather Moore, who served 11 consecutive points to finish it out. Four of the points ended on kills by Joli Eberhart, who had six kills in the game and a match-high 13.
OCC (9-4, 6-2) led, 1-0, in the second game but Golden West came back with five consecutive points and won with ease, 15-4.
Golden West held a 14-1 lead in the final game, then gave up three points before Moore served the final point for the match.
Carrie Schafhauser led OCC with six kills.
