Names of Nine Victims Released by U.S.

WASHINGTON — Here is a partial list of the servicemen killed Tuesday aboard the Iwo Jima in the Persian Gulf and in a desert accident. Navy officials said the identities of the two other sailors who died are being withheld pending notification of family members.
The Navy victims:
1. Petty Officer 3rd Class David Alan Gilliland, 21, of Warrensburg, Mo. Boiler technician.
2. Petty Officer 2nd Class Mark Edward Hutchison, 27, of Elkins, W. Va. Boiler technician.
3. Petty Officer 2nd Class Daniel Lupatsky, 22, of Centralia, Pa. Electrician’s mate.
4. Fireman’s apprentice Daniel Clayton McKinsey, 21, of Hanover, Pa.
5. Petty Officer 3rd Class James Arthur Smith Jr., 22, of Somerville, Tenn. Machinist’s mate.
6. Petty Officer 1st Class Robert Lee Volden, 38, of New York. Boiler technician.
7. Lt. John Mather Snyder, 25, of Milltown, N.J.
8. Petty Officer 2nd Class Fred Russell Parker Jr., 24, of Reidsville, N.C. Boiler technician.
The Marine victim: 1st Lt. Michael N. Monroe, 27, Auburn, Wash.
