LAGUNA BEACH : Free Public Tours of Canyon Today
- Share via
Free public tours of the Laguna Laurel property are scheduled today as part of a campaign to win voter approval of a $20-million bond measure to purchase the land and preserve Laguna Canyon.
The 2,150-acre site was proposed for development by the Irvine Co. until the city agreed to buy the land over a five-year period for $78 million.
The proceeds from the bond measure--if approved by two-thirds of Laguna Beach voters--would gotoward the first payment of $33 million due next June.
Tours sponsored by the Committee to Save the Canyon will leave from the “Act 5” parking lot on the west side of Laguna Canyon Road just north of Laguna Beach.
The one-hour tours will leave every 30 minutes from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and two three-hour tours will depart at 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Campaign officials recommended that participants wear hiking gear.
