‘Popular’ Gutters
In rebuttal to “On the House” by Morris and James Carey (Aug. 26) that galvanized sheet metal gutters are the most “popular.” The most popular, efficient and economical type of rain gutters are “seamless” aluminum.
Galvanized gutters are soldered at the seams (the first spot to deteriorate). Seamless gutters are extruded on the job from a machine in any desired length. Galvanized rain gutters need painting, aluminum do not. They are prepainted in many popular colors.
Galvanized gutters cost per linear foot (unpainted) is $3.50 to $5.50 installed. Seamless aluminum gutters range from $2.50 to $4 installed.
Galvanized sheet metal will rust, aluminum cannot.
