Stradivarius Violin Expected to Break Record: A 270-year-old violin by the Italian master craftsman Antonio Stradivari is expected to bring a world-record price of more than $1 million in London next month, Christie’s auctioneers said Tuesday. The Stradivarius, named the “Mendelssohn” because it was once owned by descendants of the composer, is expected to bring up to $1.28 million when it comes under the hammer Nov. 21. The auction record for a violin is $1.13 million, set in 1988.
