Weiss Sidelined by Knee Injury

Walt Weiss, the Oakland Athletics’ starting shortstop, will be sidelined for the remainderof the American League playoffs after suffering a sprained ligament in his left knee duringSunday night’s game.
Weiss, who underwent tests Monday at Merritt Hospital in Oakland, was examined by the A’steam orthopedist, Rick Bost. Weiss was injured when the Boston Red Sox’s Ellis Burks upendedhim in breaking up a double play during the eighth inning of Oakland’s 4-1 victory at FenwayPark.
Weiss’ status will be re-assessed should the A’s play in the World Series.
