FILLMORE : City Official Against Hike in Speed Limit

A proposed increase in the speed limit on a stretch of California 23 should not be allowed, Fillmore’s city engineer advised the City Council.
The council will consider protesting the increase, proposed by the California Department of Transportation, during tonight’s meeting.
A recent study prepared by Caltrans suggested increasing the posted speed limit on California 23 between the junction of California 126 and Pasadena Avenue from 40 to 45 m.p.h., even though the accident rate along that stretch is 2 1/2 times the number projected by the state.
According to the Caltrans study, 85% of vehicles on that portion of the highway reach speeds up to 60 m.p.h..
