Cynthia Ann Deming; Retired Teacher

Cynthia Ann Deming, a retired San Fernando Valley teacher, has died at her home in Rocklin, Calif. She was 68.
Mrs. Deming died Sept. 17 of emphysema, said her daughter Pam McCarthy.
Born Cynthia Ann Blazo on April 25, 1922, in Watertown, Mass., she earned a teaching credential from Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, Mass., and later served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She moved to California in 1950 and settled in the San Fernando Valley two years later.
Mrs. Deming was director of the preschool at Canoga Park Presbyterian Church. Later, during the early-to-late 1970s, she taught learning-disabled children at the West Valley Center for Educational Therapy in Canoga Park and instructed preschool teachers at the West Valley Occupational Center in Woodland Hills.
She was a longtime resident of the San Fernando Valley and a member of the Santa Monica Yacht Club. She retired in 1981 and the following year moved to Northern California.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Byron Deming; daughters Pam McCarthy of Truckee, Calif., and Constance A. Deming of Sacramento; sisters Elsa Leahy of Westfield, Mass., and Deborah Shea of Wilmington, Mass; a grandson and a granddaughter.
A memorial service was held Sept. 22 in Roseville, Calif. The Neptune Society handled the arrangements. Donations can be sent in Mrs. Deming’s name to the Hospice of Roseville, in care of Roseville Community Hospital, 333 Sunrise Ave., Roseville, Calif. 95661.
