Rowers and gymnasts spearheaded China’s unprecedented winning of 30 gold medals in the Asian Games at Bejing.

The Chinese won all 14 of their events in rowing, a sport virtually unknown in the country five years ago, and seven in gymnastics, putting them more than halfway to their target of 100 gold medals. In four days, China has won 61 golds.
