‘Spartacus’ Comes Again: Universal Pictures will reconstruct and restore the 1960 epic motion picture “Spartacus,” directed by Stanley Kubrick and produced by and starring Kirk Douglas. Five minutes of footage cut from the original “Spartacus” to satisfy censors will be added to the picture, along with the original overture and intermission. The restorative process will be completed by early 1991, and a 70mm Dolby stereo release of the three-hour film is planned.
