Arthur C. Bass, a veteran airline and freight industry executive, has been named chairman and chief executive of Emery Worldwide, an air freight subsidiary of Consolidated Freightways Inc.
Most recently, Bass, 58, was president, chief executive and a board member of Cooper Cos. of New York. He is a founder of Federal Express and was president of the company from 1975 to 1981 and vice chairman from 1981 to 1982.
In 1982, he became chairman and chief executive of Midway Airlines of Chicago and oversaw Midway’s acquisition of Air Florida.
Consolidated Freightways, based in Menlo Park, Calif., owns businesses in long-haul and regional trucking, air freight and rail and ocean intermodal services.
