The Chicago Bears cut four-time Pro Bowl safety Dave Duerson, and the Dallas Cowboys cut veteran kicker Luis Zendejas Sunday as they got a head start on triming their rosters.
The Bears cut 14 players and the Cowboys six two days before Tuesday’s deadline for reducing rosters to 60 players. Teams must be at the 47-man limit by Sept. 3. The Bears, who have a surplus of defensive backs, had demoted Duerson to second string during the preseason. There had been rumors the eight-year veteran would be traded.
