Unbeaten Los Angeles super-featherweight Genaro Hernandez, a boxer in search of a title fight, meets Richard Abila tonight in the headliner bout on a triple 10-round Forum show.
Hernandez (19-0), is ranked sixth in the world by Boxing Illustrated.
Abila (15-5), is a substitute for Ben Medina, a Mexico City fighter who signed to meet Hernandez but pulled out this week without explanation. Medina fought Saturday night on a Mexico City main event.
Paul Gonzales (14-2-1), the Montebello bantamweight who was the 1984 Olympic light-flyweight gold medalist, meets Javier Leon (30-3-2) in a Forum bantamweight tournament bout. An 18-year-old from Michoacan, Mexico, Leon has won two consecutive Mexico City main events on technical knockouts. It’s Gonzales’ first fight since losing to Orando Canizales in June.
The third 10-rounder matches featherweight Louie Espinoza (35-4-1) of Phoenix, ranked second by Boxing Illustrated, and Fernando Teran (28-9-1) of Mexico City. Espinoza is 0-1-1 against International Boxing Federation champion Jorge Paez, getting a draw 15 months ago and losing a split decision last April.
