The City Council has appointed Patricia Mitchell as the new city clerk of Artesia to replace Pamela McDaniel, who resigned last month.
The council voted unanimously to hire Mitchell, the only applicant for the position that has been vacant since July 18. McDaniel had been clerk since 1988.
Mitchell will start her new job Sept. 1 at a salary of $3,115 a month. Mitchell has been deputy city clerk of La Habra Heights for more than two years. She previously worked as an administrative assistant for the Lawndale City Council.
