THE SIDELINES : Junior Boxing Contenders Told

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Russell Roberts, a reigning Golden Gloves title holder, is among five defending champions who’ll be taking part in the U.S. Junior Boxing Championships at Ft. Huachuca, Ariz.
Roberts followed his success in last year’s juniors with the Golden Gloves title and runnerup finishes in the U.S. Olympic Festival and Goodwill Games.
Others coming back to defend their titles Aug. 15-18 are Henry Sims of West Lake, La.; Derrick James of Dallas; Bobby Harris of Worcester, Mass., and Tony Ortega of Frisco, Tex.
The U.S. tournament will be the qualifying tournament for selecting the American team for the World Junior Championships, scheduled Oct. 12-21 at Lima, Peru.
