October Hearing Set for Menendez Brothers
- Share via
An Oct. 22 preliminary hearing was scheduled Monday for two Beverly Hills brothers charged with the shotgun murders of their wealthy parents for a $14-million inheritance.
The hearing will determine whether Lyle Menendez, 22, and Erik, 19, will be ordered to stand trial on the charges, which carry a possible death sentence.
Prosecutors will attempt to introduce a key piece of evidence: a psychologist’s audiotapes in which the brothers allegedly made incriminating statements about the slayings.
In a major victory for prosecutors last week, a judge ruled that the taped conversations between the brothers and Beverly Hills psychologist L. Jerome Oziel were not privileged communications because Oziel believed the brothers had threatened him.
