Out the Stage Door Onto TV: James Earl Jones says he’s retiring from the stage because it’s too demanding. Jones, 58, will concentrate on his new ABC television seres, “Gabriel’s Fire,” in which he will play an ex-convict who becomes an investigator. “I’ve done enough stage stuff now,” says Jones, who won a Tony in 1959 for “The Great White Hope” and another in 1987 for “Fences.” “I’m at the stage now where I have a hard time sustaining a serious drama beyond six months. My energies, I’ve had to face it, I just can’t keep getting up there after six months, eight times a week.”
