P.M. BRIEFING : Manufacturing Economy Gains

NEW YORK — The U.S. manufacturing economy showed strength in June for the third consecutive month, indicating renewed domestic economic expansion, the National Assn. of Purchasing Management reported today.
The purchasing managers’ index rose to 51.1% in June, up from 50.7% in May.
A reading below 50 generally indicates that the manufacturing segment of the economy is experiencing a decline in growth. A reading above 50 usually indicates that the manufacturing portion of the economy is expanding.
