AIA Names 4 to College of Fellows

Four Los Angeles area architects--Ronald A. Altoon, Jon Adams Jerde, Chester A. Widom and the late Edgardo Contini--have been named fellows of the American Institute of Architects.

The four were installed during the AIA national convention in Houston in May. They were among 62 architects elevated to the AIA’s College of Fellows. Contini, 76, a native of Italy who fled the Mussolini regime in 1939, died April 28.

Altoon, 44, founding principal of Altoon & Porter Architects, is the 1991 president of the Los Angeles AIA chapter. Jerde, 50, founder of the Jerde Partnership, designed San Diego’s Horton Plaza. Widom, 50, was the youngest architect to be licensed in California in 1962 at age 22. He is a founding partner of Widom Wein Cohen.
