A 41-year-old Westlake Village man has been sentenced to 10 months in a federal prison for robbing two Thousand Oaks-area banks in December, FBI officials said Wednesday.
U.S. District Judge James M. Ideman also sentenced Walter Anthony Souza to three years probation in addition to the prison term.
Souza was arrested Dec. 16 after he robbed the American Savings Bank on Moorpark Road and was captured by a bank customer and held until sheriff’s deputies arrived.
Souza was indicted Jan. 9 by a federal grand jury for the American Savings Bank robbery and a Dec. 12 robbery at Ventura County National Bank on Townsgate Road in Westlake Village.
In February, Souza pleaded guilty to the American Savings Bank robbery, officials said. He was convicted by a judge of the other robbery.
