Newport Harbor Hires Bates as Baseball Coach

Kirk Bates has been hired to replace Bill White as the baseball coach at Newport Harbor High School. Bates, 27, played baseball at Katella High School, Cal State Fullerton and briefly in the Texas Rangers’ farm system.

Principal Dennis Evans fired White, a walk-on coach, last week, saying he wanted a coach who would be on campus full time. White had a two-year record of 13-39.
