Senate Confirms 1st Envoy to Nicaragua Since 1988

WASHINGTON — The Senate on Friday confirmed the nomination of Harry W. Shlaudeman to be the U.S. ambassador to Nicaragua. Shlaudeman, 64, will be the first ambassador to represent the United States in the Central American country since the leftist Nicaraguan government expelled Ambassador Richard Melton and seven other diplomats in 1988.
