A man who said he was standing on a corner when he was attacked and stabbed by an unknown assailant in Southeast San Diego was in fair condition Sunday with a knife wound to the chest, authorities said.
Police responded at 12:40 a.m. Sunday to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 1600 block of Imperial Avenue, spokesman Sgt. Jacob Hughes said.
The victim, identified as Humphrey McCarter, 33, said he was stabbed by a Latino male, but he was unable to provide a more detailed description, Hughes said. Police were seeking a suspect.
McCarter was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he was in fair condition Sunday, hospital spokeswoman Christine Reller said.
