CITY SECTION BASEBALL PLAYOFFS : North Hollywood Reaches 1st Round With a 6-2 Win Over Granada Hills

Erik Martinez and Sam Chiaramilaro combined on a two-hitter and Jose Ortiz’s two-run single keyed a five-run second inning as North Hollywood High rolled to a 6-2 win over Granada Hills in a City Section 4-A Division wild-card playoff game Wednesday at North Hollywood.
Martinez (5-3), a senior right-hander, struck out five batters in six innings and was two for three with a run batted in at the plate. Nelson Pichardo had two hits and drove in a run for North Hollywood (10-11).
In another playoff game:
Taft 13, Reseda 1--Taft’s first five batters walked, No. 6 batter Mike Krasner doubled and Matt Allison followed with a triple as Taft piled up a 9-0 first-inning lead.
Taft’s win in the 4-A Division wild-card game sets up a first-round game at El Camino Real on Friday at 3 p.m.
Starter and winner Eddie Soto (2-1) struck out three and walked three. Warren Peck was four for four and Benji Belfield tripled for Taft (11-14-1).
Starter Robert Reynoso did not survive the first inning and took the loss for Reseda (6-15).
