Schools Urged to Fight Trump for Ambassador

A Los Angeles Unified School District panel has recommended trying to wrangle the historic Ambassador Hotel away from Donald Trump in order to put a high school on the Koreatown site where Trump wants to build a skyscraper.
The school district’s building committee recommended this week that the Board of Education begin condemnation procedures to acquire the 23-acre site from Trump Wilshire Associates.
The landmark Wilshire Boulevard hotel played host to many of the 20th Century’s biggest celebrities and was the site of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy’s 1968 assassination by Sirhan B. Sirhan.
The 69-year-old hotel fell on hard times in recent years and was closed last year.
Trump announced plans earlier this year to construct a towering office, hotel and residential complex on the site. A Trump spokeswoman said Thursday that the New York City developer would fight the school proposal.
