Accident Near Balboa Park Critically Hurts Bicyclist

A 66-year-old North Park man was critically injured Friday when he fell off a bicycle near Balboa Park, police said.
A motorist found Lyndell Franklin Sharp unconscious about 12:45 p.m. at Upas Street and Villa Terrace, said police spokesman Bill Robinson. Sharp lives in the 3700 block of Herman Avenue.
Robinson said Sharp was wearing a light helmet but suffered severe head injuries. He is in critical condition at Mercy Hospital, said a hospital spokesman.
Robinson said police are uncertain whether Sharp was hit by a vehicle or ran the bike into a vehicle. Traffic investigator Tony Atkins said it appears that Sharp “just went down suddenly,” because the 10-speed bicycle was slightly damaged.
Anyone with information on the accident can call police at 495-7805.
