Push Mass Transit
It is somewhat ironic that the day after Earth Day, The Times should publish an editorial advocating passage of Prop. 111, which would raise the gas tax to improve and build more roads.
This will only increase traffic, causing more pollution. In the spirit of Earth Day, we should bend our efforts to get people out of their cars and into mass transportation by making it more attractive, dependable and reliable. We can start by getting the Orange County Transit District and RTD to place schedules at every bus stop. This is common in London and the cities of Europe.
We can also expand light-rail lines and express buses and trains. Start pushing mass transportation and we’ll find it much cheaper and healthier.
