SACRAMENTO — Democrat gubernatorial candidate John K. Van de Kamp said today that he has 1 million signatures to qualify a ballot measure that would limit state politicians to 12 years in office.
The number is far in excess of the 595,000 needed to qualify the measure for the November ballot.
“Something seems to happen to people who stay too long in power,” Van de Kamp said. “They start to think the position is theirs by right, rather than by grant from the people.”
