Explosives Lost in Drill for Bomb-Sniffing Dogs

MILWAUKEE — Authorities were searching for a half-pound package of plastic explosives they accidentally left in a passenger’s suitcase at Mitchell Airport during a routine drill for bomb-detecting dogs.
Sheriff’s deputies forgot to remove the plastic, known as C4, after a dog sniffed out the right piece of luggage, Lt. John Lagowski of the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department said. He said that passengers on an Eastern Airlines flight that arrived in Milwaukee on April 17 will be contacted.
The package cannot explode unless it comes in contact with a detonating cap, Lagowski said.
