Toshiba to Open HDTV Center in N.J.: The Labor Department reported Toshiba America Consumer Products said it will establish a center at its headquarters in Wayne, N.J., to develop new television technology, including high-definition television (HDTV). The center will seek to develop advanced receivers to meet U.S. broadcasting standards for HDTV systems--expected to be decided by the Federal Communications Commission in 1993. Soon after the standard is set, Toshiba America will manufacture these receivers at its Lebanon, Tenn., facility.
