New Critic at N.Y. Times: David Richards will become the Sunday theater critic of the New York Times on Aug. 20, leaving the job as theater critic at the Washington Post, which he has held since 1981. Richards will take what is often called “the Walter Kerr slot,” after the critic who held the position for many years. Broadway and media insiders say the move may quell criticism of what is often seen as the power held by the Times’ daily theater critic, Frank Rich.
