A Venice woman was beaten to death early Monday by a burglar, and a suspect was captured after neighbors who heard the victim’s screams alerted police, authorities said.
The 41-year-old woman, whose name was not released until her relatives could be notified, was apparently killed about 12:50 a.m.
Police received a call about that time reporting that a woman was screaming inside the apartment, Lt. Phil Roberts said.
Officers investigating the report found the suspect at the apartment. The man, Kermis Thompson, 29, described as an apparent transient, was booked on suspicion of murder.
