Woman Facing Drug Charges Gives Birth to Son in Courtroom

SHREVEPORT, La. — Childbirth can be a trial, and it can even happen at a trial.
Jacqueline Jamerson, 24, gave birth to a son Wednesday minutes after she walked out of District Judge John Ballard’s courtroom complaining of labor pains. She was taken to an adjacent courtroom where the child was born with the help of a fire department ambulance crew.
A jury had been picked to hear drug charges against Jamerson when defense attorney Michael Walker told the judge his client was experiencing “discomfort.”
Jamerson and her son were listed in good condition at the LSU Medical Center. Jurors were told to go home for the weekend.
