San Diego police arrested a suspect Monday in a series of robberies and rapes that occurred in the downtown area last week. Christopher Allen, 25, was arrested at the downtown Coast Hotel at 1 p.m. and held on suspicion of attempted murder, rape and robbery. According to a police spokesman, Allen escaped last December from a work-furlough program in Los Angeles.
Allen is suspected of robbing a cleaners, jewelry store and garage. Two women reported being raped. The crimes occurred last Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, police said.
