IRVINE — A burger-stand manager, stabbed several times in the chest and abdomen by a robber, drove more than two miles to a service station to summon help early Saturday, police said.
Gary Alonzo, 43, of Culver City, was reported in stable condition at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana after emergency surgery to stop internal bleeding, police said.
According to officers, Alonzo, night manager at Bebop Burgers on Barranca Parkway, had driven to a bank branch at 2:40 a.m. to deposit money when he was threatened by a man demanding the cash. Alonzo struggled with the robber and was stabbed.
Police said the robber escaped with the money. They described him as a white man in his late 30s or early 40s with light brown, curly hair and a full beard. He was dressed in a dark plaid shirt and jeans.
