NAZIS: While the East German parliament has apologized for Nazi war crimes (A1), progress elsewhere in German society is spotty, says UC Irvine Prof. Eric Rentschler, just awarded a Guggenheim fellowship for a study of Nazi films. . . . He says that entertainment features produced during the era, some including subtle propaganda, are still considered “classics.” “They’ve all been laundered by history,” Rentschler says. One concession: the TV guides omit the years the films were made.
