Labeling Fight Over?: Legislators sponsoring some of the toughest mandatory record labeling bills in five key states came away from a meeting with the head of the Recording Industry Assn. of America with an agreement to drop the campaigns if the industry’s proposed labeling program proves satisfactory. Florida Rep. Joseph Arnall, who participated in the meeting by phone from his Tallahassee office, said he and the other legislators called the meeting with Jason Berman, president of the association, to be briefed on the industry’s new standardized labeling plans. A follow-up meeting will be held in 30 days to measure the association’s progress in putting the plan into action. Missouri Rep. Jean Dixon, the original proponent of government-mandated stickers for explicit albums, was joined at the meeting by Reps. Ron Gamble (R-Penn.), V. George Carey (R-Dela.) and Judith Toth (D-Ala.).
