THOUSAND OAKS : Street Parking OKd for Heavier Trucks
- Share via
After dozens of local truck owners showed up to voice their concerns, the Thousand Oaks City Council voted to allow larger commercial trucks to be parked on residential streets.
Under a city ordinance that was approved unanimously Tuesday, trucks weighing less than 12,000 pounds can be parked on residential streets and property.
The council’s decision was applauded by truck owners, who said they need places to park.
“Where are you going to keep the trucks?” one man asked. “The RV lots are full.”
The city previously had barred trucks weighing more than 5,000 pounds from parking on streets.
Officials decided to revise the law because of a recent opinion by the state attorney general’s office, which said that weight limits of less than 10,000 pounds were illegally discriminatory.
