A Mission Viejo man died after a car he was riding in crashed into the back of a big-rig truck on the Riverside Freeway, authorities said Thursday.
The truck was traveling west in the slow lane, just east of Gypsum Canyon Road, at 8:35 p.m. Wednesday when a Honda slammed into it, California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Angel Johnson said.
Mohmoud Radwan, 78, a passenger in the Honda, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown partly through the windshield, Johnson said.
Radwan was pronounced dead at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, Johnson said.
Francis Valenzuela, 32, of Mission Viejo, the driver of the Honda, was treated at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Anaheim and later released. The driver of the truck was not hurt.
