CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SACRAMENTO : Legislature Meets Election Deadline

Secretary of State March Fong Eu said the Legislature did, in fact, act in time to qualify school construction and earthquake bond measures for the June 5 election. Eu late last week said the Legislature had passed the deadline to qualify for the June election and indicated that there was little chance the measures would make the ballot. But a spokeswoman said that private printing firms have assured the secretary of state that even with the Legislature’s approval of the measures Tuesday they could print and label 11 million supplemental ballot pamphlets in time to get them to the U.S. Postal Service by a May 15 statutory deadline.
