PREP ROUNDUP : Esperanza Blanks Canyon in Doubleheader

Brian Pickler, Shade Summers and Keith McDonald shut out Canyon High School on three hits in the first game and Esperanza swept a baseball doubleheader Monday at Boysen Park in Anaheim.
Esperanza, which won the first game, 3-0, scored unearned runs in the first, second and sixth innings of the opener. In the second game, the Aztecs (4-2) also won, 3-0, scoring three runs in the first inning. Joe Foss, Todd Hennigar, Matt Thimgan and Dan Redington held Canyon to four hits.
In another nonleague baseball game:
Edison 15, Garden Grove 1 (6 innings, darkness)--James Eidam was two for three with two runs batted in to lead Edison (5-1) at Garden Grove.
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
Esperanza 10, La Habra 8--Freshmen Alex Conter and Kim Nguyen swept at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2, for host Esperanza. Conter and Nguyen are 18-0 this season for Esperanza (4-2).
Laguna Beach 14, Edison 4--Jon Leach won his singles matches, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, improving his record to 12-0 this season, and Lee Kirner won, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, in his first match since returning from the basketball team for the host Artists (1-3).
In nonleague boys’ volleyball:
Santa Ana 3, Santiago 1--Hector Salcedo had seven kills as visiting Santa Ana (4-0) won, 15-8, 7-15, 15-13, 15-9.
In nonleague golf:
Servite 188, Cypress 208--Brian Dancses shot a three-over par 36 for host Servite (6-1).
El Toro 195, Santa Margarita 215--Jim Zakhar shot an even-par 36 and Billy Madison shot a two-over 38 as El Toro (6-0) won at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.
Ocean View 220, La Mirada 243--Darren Ernst shot a seven-over 42, finishing a stroke behind La Mirada’s medalist, for visiting Ocean View (5-2).
