Rams Sign Plan B Guard Milinichik

The Rams announced the signing of six free agents Friday, including Plan B guard Joe Milinichik of the Detroit Lions.

Milinichik, 6-feet-5, 275 pounds, played in all 16 games for Detroit last season, starting once. He was a four-year starter at North Carolina State and the Lions’ third-round draft choice in 1986. Milinichik, who will turn 27 March 30, spent his entire rookie season on injured reserve after suffering a dislocated elbow.

After being injured during training camp in 1989, Milinichik lost his starting job to rookie Mike Utley.

With the Rams, Milinichik fills a void left by guard/center Tony Slaton, a Plan B free agent who signed last week with Dallas.

In lesser moves, the team signed tight end Richard Ashe and wide receiver Anthony Sargent, both of whom finished the 1989 season on the team’s developmental squad.

Others signed included guard Jeff Mickel, Eastern Washington; cornerback Mario Mitchell, San Diego State, and wide receiver Derrick Saison, Howard University.
