Wal-Mart Stores Inc.: The Bentonville, Ark., retailer reported record sales and profit in fiscal 1989. Net income totaled $1.1 billion, up 29% from fiscal 1988. Sales during the period ended Jan. 31 rose 25% to $25.8 billion. The company continued its expansion program, raising its total of Wal-Mart stores to 1,402, up 11% from 1988.
